Most people know that Mazda builds sporty cars. But for driving enthusiasts, it's the company's history of building sports cars with lightweight rotary engines that sets it apart from the competition. The Mazda RX-8 was one of these, and was the only one with a four-door configuration.The heart of the Mazda RX-8 was its high-revving, 1.3-liter rotary engine. Because of the engine's compact size, engineers were able to mount it farther back in the RX-8's chassis, giving the car a coveted 50/50 front/rear weight distribution. The R3 was a high-performance variant that featured 19-inch wheels, an aggressively tuned suspension, Recaro sport seats, exterior body modifications and some high-tech convenience features.Although the Mazda RX-8 looks like a race-tuned sports car, its demeanor on the road is considerably more docile. Its ample grip through corners and solid feedback through the steering wheel make it an absolute riot on a serpentine road, yet the car's compliant ride means that it won't beat you up on the daily commute. The rotary engine requires high engine speeds to make serious power, but the delivery is virtually vibration-free and noise levels are subdued. If you like a smooth engine in feel, sound and power delivery, the RX-8's is second to none.Inside the cabin, the RX-8's innovative two-person backseat and reverse-opening rear half-doors provide the sort of practicality no other sports car can match. Provided rear-seat passengers are of average size, those seated in the back will find supportive seating and ample room. Overall, the RX-8 is one of the best examples of a car that's both fun to drive and very livable on a day-to-day basis. The Toyota HiLux continues to dominate ute sales in Australia despite the arrival of newer – and mostly superior – rivals.
The Toyota HiLux was at least updated in 2011 to keep it fresher as it faces its growing list of competitors.
It was back in 1968 when the Toyota HiLux came into existence and not until 1979 that it even got a 4WD system. So it’s been through the past 43 years of improvement that the HiLux has earned its reputation as a proper, unbreakable workhorse or practical family vehicle.
As of today over 14 million Toyota HiLux vehicles have been sold worldwide, of which a staggering 700,000 have come to Australia (1/20). It’s no wonder then, that the HiLux remains the dominant player in its category and one of the best-selling vehicles in Australia in general.
Nonetheless, times are changing and despite its indisputable credentials, growing competition from cheap Chinese utes, a relentless effort by Volkswagen’s Amarok, the Ford Ranger and Mazda BT-50has meant that Toyota has had to respond.
To give it a more competitive advantage, the updated seventh-generation Toyota HiLux has got its share of new features. From the outside everything from the A-pillar forward has been updated (new bonnet, grille, headlamps and front bumper) and the rear gets new combination lamps (for pick-up models).
The real story however is the added value and price reductions to the new model range, with all 21 Toyota HiLux 4×4 variants gaining between $1960 and $8340 better value. 4×2 buyers also benefit with a host of new features and modest or no price gains, which Toyota says has enhanced value by up to $1640.

A 'CIty ENGINE'

The engine powering the City 1.5 is still from the Civic line. Compared to the 1.3, the stroke is longer at 84.5 mm (76 mm) while the bore is a constant 75 mm. This has resulted in an undersquare configuration which means better pulling power. The compression ratio is higher at 9.4 (9.0) and there is now 77 kW (105 bhp) at 6500 rpm (69.8 kW/95 bhp at 6400 rpm). Torque is 134 Nm at 4600 rpm (115 Nm/4700 rpm). The City 1.5 is only heavier by 8 kgs and thus enjoys a better weight-to-power ratio of 12.8 kgs/kW (13.9 kgs/kW).

There are also some changes in the 4-speed automatic transmission to accommodate the higher power outputs. Second, third and fourth gears are higher in ratios since there is more torque now. In fact, third gear is an overdrive at 0.972.

DRIVING THE CITY 1.5

As one of our staff has a City 1.3, we had the rare chance to gauge the City 1.5 back-to-back. The better torque has definitely provided for a more relaxed driving ambience. There was no need to prompt the accelerator often to get it down to second gear for that spurt of speed or pull to get going quickly.

The City 1.5 has ample torque to sufficiently quick
 pick-up for overtaking on the highway and when going up mild inclines. This feature also helped to give the City higher corner speed through winding stretches, encouraged as well by the proven all-independent suspension with a MacPherson strut at each wheel and the 175/75 SR13 Dunlop LeMans J-Cinq tyres.

With less of a need to kick down and get second gear, there was less of a jerky affair while driving. Although some improvements were made with the automatic transmission, it still didn't perform as good as that in the Civic. It is getting there though.

Our acceleration runs confirmed the City 1.5 as a quicker car. It was clocked at 11.5 seconds for the 100 km/h sprints which the City 1.3 did in 13.2 seconds. On kickdowns, the City 1.5 covered the 50-80 km/h runs in 5.6 seconds, a second faster.

Despite the slight differences in transmission ratios, road speed through the gears were similar–58 km/h (60 in the 1.3) in first, 104 km/h in second and 160 km/h in third. The auto changes occurred between 6100 and 6500 rpm. This was also similar at cruising speeds, with the engine running between 2800 and 3100 rpm (2600 and 3000 rpm) at 100-110 km/h.

As is typical of Honda engines, some mileage is required before optimum performance can enjoyed. That in the test City 1.5 was no different, having covered slightly above 1,000 kms when we borrowed it. Thus the top speed we attained may not be indicative of the true potential of the car in this respect. If it is like the City 1.3, it should do above 170 km/h, if not 180 km/h, with more mileage.

The difference in interior appointments aren't much. The extras come in a central console bin and a door armrest for the front doors. All the windows are electrically-powered (only the front ones for the City 1.3).


"Would you buy the City 1.5?" we asked the staffer who owns a City 1.3. The response (which we also tend to agree with) was this: "Now that I've driven it, I do regret not waiting for the 1.5 to come along. The better pull certainly makes for more comfortable and relaxed driving. But with the gloomy economic scenario, I think I will keep my City 1.3

The Mini Cooper is available in two-door hatchback and convertible body styles, both of which seat four people. Those in back will be very cramped unless the folks up front are on the small side.
The Mini manages to please a wide variety of drivers, thanks to its discrete trim levels. A relatively demure runabout in its base 121-hp trim, albeit a dynamically well-sorted one, the Cooper is perfectly content playing grocery-getter or errand-runner. Step up to the 181-hp turbocharged Cooper S or 208-hp John Cooper Works model, however, and the Mini is transformed into a hot hatch with dynamic acceleration and handling. With any engine or transmission (six-speed manual or automatic), owners are treated to excellent fuel economy -- up to 32 combined mpg for the base model and 29 combined mpg for the two turbocharged models.
The Mini is all about agility, however, and is a stand out whether on a serpentine road or just darting through the city. The down side is a rather firm ride, especially with larger wheels fitted. The Mini's tiny size also makes it easy to find a suitable parking spot, though the convertible's compromised rear visibility will make it difficult to get into that spot.
All Coopers comes well equipped, but the options list is chalk full of countless luxury and customization features. The cabin is endearing to look at, but it can be a head scratcher to use. The pie-plate-sized center-mounted speedometer honors the Mini's past, but from a functional standpoint it's a bit silly. Meanwhile, the climate controls are awkward to use and the stereo controls aren't much better. The phrase "form over function" is quite apt when describing the Mini Cooper's interior.
Overall, though, we've found the Mini Cooper to be one of the most endearing cars on the road. While it may have its flaws, Mini buyers are likely to deem them "quirks" worth living with given this little hatchback and convertible's boundless fun and character.

suzuki swift..''Feel young drive young''

The only bad thing about it is low quality doors. They must have used good quality doors.

Interior (Features, Space & Comfort): Its interior is also quite attractive with very nice 2din CD Player with 4 awesome speakers which have very good bass and sound quality.

The things which i wanted more are media buttons on steering, it would be too good to have. And less sound in cabin, but it is SUZUKI so we must know about it when we make our mind to bought it. 

Front seats are little hard but its ok, Rear seats are very soft and it is quite comfortable at back to sit.

Fuel Economy: Fuel economy is good, its definitely not what people said. Within city with little bit ac it is giving me average between 11-15km/ltr, depending about driving style. But recommend people to change gear in btw 2-3K rpm. 

Ride Quality & Handling: Swift has little hard suspension so the ride drives kind of sporty with excellent pickup and very good at cornering. But is quite rough on bad or bumpy roads due to hard suspension but it is not the cars fault, it thats the road are quite bad here.

Final Words: If anyone wants a brand new hatchback in the range of 1.3M then i will definitely recommend Suzuki Swift. Its the best bang for buck...
